CARACTERES FISIOLÓGICOS E AGRONÔMICOS EM PROGÊNIES INTERPOPULACIONAIS DE MILHO SELECIONADAS SOB CONDIÇÕES DE DÉFICIT HÍDRICO

RESUMO - A seca é uma das maiores limitações no cultivo de plantas e um grande desafio para as pesquisas científicas em agricultura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar, em casa de vegetação, alterações de características fisiológicas e biométricas de progênies interpopulacionais de milho oriundas de um programa de seleção recorrente para tolerância à seca utilizando a variedade IAC Maya Latente, a fim de identificar mecanismos de tolerância ao déficit hídrico. Para isso, foram avaliadas oito progênies tolerantes selecionadas em campo quanto aos caracteres fisiológicos: potencial de água na folha (yw); teor de clorofila (Chl); e condutância estomática (gs); e aos biométricos: intervalo entre os floresci-mentos (IF); stay green (SG); matéria seca total (MST); e massa de grãos (MG). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, com parcelas subdivididas e duas repetições, com 14 plantas por parcela, com deficiência hídrica no estádio de florescimento. As progênies PI(1,2)-59, PI(1,2)-100, PI(1,2)-109, PI(1,2)-117 e PI(1,2)-147 obtiveram as melhores performances de MG e parâmetros fisiológicos e podem ser exploradas para extração de linhagens ou para obtenção de nova população. Os parâmetros fisiológicos (yw), gs e Chl permitiram a caracterização das progênies PI(1,2)-59, PI(1,2)-100, PI(1,2)-109 e PI(1,2)-147 da variedade IAC Maya Latente e do DAS2B707, possibilitando que o melhorista utilize estas ferramentas na seleção de genótipos tolerantes.

PHYSIOLOGICAL AND AGRONOMIC TRAITS IN INTERPOPULATION PROGENIES OF MAIZE SELECTED UNDER WATER DEFICIT
ABSTRACT - Drought is one of the major limitations for the cultivation of plants and a great challenge for the scientific research in agriculture. The objective of this study was to evaluate, under greenhouse, alterations in physiological and biometrics traits of progenies tolerant to drought and the IAC Maya Latent, in order to identify the mechanism of maize tolerance to water stress. For this purpose, the physiological traits of eight tolerant progenies selected at field were evaluated, leaf water potential (yw), total chlorophyll (Chl) and stomatal conductance (gs), and the biometric traits interval between flowering (IF), stay-green (SG), total dry matter (MST), index harvest (IC) and grains mass (GM). The experimental design was randomized blocks in a split plot scheme and two replications, with water stress at flowering stage. The progenies PI(1,2)-59, PI(1,2)-100, PI(1,2)-109, PI(1,2)-117 and PI(1,2)-147 presented the best performance for GM and physiological parameters and can be exploited for the extraction of inbred lines or to obtain new population. The physiological parameters yw, gs and Chl, allowed the characterization of the progenies PI(1,2)-59, PI(1,2)-100, PI(1,2)-109, PI(1,2)-147 of the variety Maya Latent and DAS2B707, allowing the breeder to use these tools in the selection of tolerant genotypes.
