X-RAY IN THE EVALUATION OF INTERNAL MORPHOLOGY OF SORGHUM SEEDS
ABSTRACT - The use of X-ray in seeds is an efficient technique for the evaluation of the internal seed morphology; it is considered a fast, accurate and non-destructive method. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the internal morphology of sorghum seeds through X-ray. Therefore, seeds of hybrid 50A70 were used, represented by ten lots. The X-rayed seeds were submitted to germination test in order to associate the internal morphology of the seeds with normal or abnormal seedlings and dead seeds. The results allowed concluding that the X-ray test is effective in identifying damage tissue deterioration, mechanical damage, malformation damage and insect damage, enabling to establish a relationship between the observed damage and the negative effect on germination.
